When foam reaches the switch, the switch turns on a pump that feeds liquid to nozzles in top of the tank and the spray knocks the foam down (shield keeps spray from tripping Channel 2). When the liquid reaches the switch it shuts down the feed pump and the foam knockdown pump. This allows greater storage capacity in tank and prevents product overflow or wastage, thus reducing the burden on the plants waste treatment facility. --- ## Interstatial Tank Monitoring URL: https://deltamcorp.com/blog/2013/02/01/interstatial-tank-monitoring/ When tanks are installed underground it is quite often required that these tanks have 2 walls with an air space between the walls. It is important to know that these tanks are in good condition and not leaking. With the switches configured to detect interface you can be notified of the source of any leak. If the outer tank wall is leaking we would detect ground water entering the air space. If the inner wall is compromised then we would detect the contents of the tank leaking into the air space. --- ## Rupture Disks & Pressure Relief Valve Monitor URL: https://deltamcorp.com/blog/2013/02/01/rupture-disks-pressure-relief-valve-monitor/ Because of the reliability and durability of DELTA M switches they are ideal for these applications whether for gas or liquid service. Frequently a switch is mounted just over a rupture disk or pressure relief valve. By doing this the switch will alarm on the slightest leak notifying everyone in many cases before a full release occurs. When working with liquids, it is often best to set it up as a level switch which allows the switch to indicate a leak as soon as the liquid comes in contact with the sensor. In gas applications, it is often best to use a flow switch. With DELTA M switches, capability to indicate gas flows all the way down to .1 feet per second, the smallest leak may be detected. --- ## Point Level for Backup of Continuous Level URL: https://deltamcorp.com/blog/2013/02/01/point-level-for-backup-of-continuous-level/ While a vessel or reactor is being charged, you can compare DELTA M switch point indications to any continuous unit’s output. The DELTA M switch indicating points can’t change once installed making them very reliable as backups to other forms of level measurement. Example: When charging a critical reactor, the operator or, in many cases, the control system compares our switch point indications to the output from the continuous level instrument. If they agree, charge continues. If not, the reaction is aborted and a possibly serious accident is prevented. --- ## Detection of Water in Fuel Tanks URL: https://deltamcorp.com/blog/2013/02/01/detection-of-water-in-fuel-tanks/ DELTA M has many customers that use our switches to determine if water is present in fuel storage tanks. Several large northern city rapid transit authorities use DELTA M switches to continuously remove water from fuel storage tanks. Two switches are mounted close to the bottom of the tank with one being slightly higher than the other. As water separates from the fuel, it settles to the bottom. When the DELTA M switch mounted higher in the tank detects water, it activates a pump which pulls the water from the bottom of the tank. When fuel reaches the switch mounted closest to the bottom of the tank, the switch senses the presence of the fuel and shuts off the pump. This allows for very inexpensive automatic control. --- ## 3-A sanitary switch URL: https://deltamcorp.com/blog/2013/02/07/3-a-sanitary-switch/ Do you have need for certified, sanitary liquid flow or point level monitoring in your processing plant? A flow meter with dual set points for control can be expensive when the accuracy of the flow control is of less concern than the budget. Application Solution: A flow switch with dual channels has the capability of setting two discrete flow set points for establishing the flow control function without the expense of a flow meter. Normally the first channel would be set for “no flow” or “minimum flow” and the second channel for maximum acceptable flow of the liquid or gas. Exact flow rates must be established by a separate flow meter or approximated by other local means or process experience.... --- ## Flow Apps URL: https://deltamcorp.com/applications/flow/ # FLOW APPLICATIONS --- ## Interstitial Tank Monitoring URL: https://deltamcorp.com/applications/interstitial-tank-monitoring/ ### Interstitial Tank Monitoring - Tank Leak Detection When tanks are installed underground it is quite often required that these tanks have 2 walls with an air space between the walls. --- ## Foam Control In Tanks URL: https://deltamcorp.com/applications/foam-control-in-tanks/ ### Foam Control In Tanks A shielded VERSA-SWITCH® VS5100 probe is installed in the tank with Channel 1 set to detect foam; Channel 2 is set to detect liquid. --- ## Detection of Water in Fuel Tanks URL: https://deltamcorp.com/applications/detection-of-water-in-fuel-tanks/ DELTA M has many customers that use our switches to determine if water is present in fuel storage tanks. --- ## Sump Level Monitor URL: https://deltamcorp.com/applications/sump-level-monitor/ In many manufacturing facilities, sumps can be a big problem. Seldom do you know what is going to end up in the sump; it can be anything from acid to tar. In a situation like this, the DELTA M thermal differential level switch is ideal since it has no moving parts to stick and is available in many exotic materials that are compatible with most chemicals. The DELTA M multi-point level switch is ideal for these applications. The switches can have from 2 points to 6 points with 3 or 4 being very common. In power plants, for example, you may want additional points for booster or back-up points. In addition to the level of the fluid, a dual channel sensing switch can also be configured to indicate when agitation is taking place in the tank (i.e. stirring action). Application Solution: A level switch with dual channels has the capability of setting two discrete liquid level interaction set points. Normally the first channel would be set for a high level condition but with a time delay. The first channel would trip a relay only when the sensing probe was fully covered with the liquid product for an extended time period whether or not agitation was taking place.... --- ## Gas Booster Flow Monitor URL: https://deltamcorp.com/applications/gas-booster-flow-monitor/ ### Gas Booster Flow Monitor ##### Applications: Gas Booster Flow Monitor Gas Booster Flow Switch Gas Booster Flow Control Application Background: Gas booster systems are used to keep up with demand in downstream piping as the process changes. Typically a gas flow switch is installed downstream from the gas booster fan. Once the downstream demand is met, the flow equalizes and there is no more flow at the switch. A relay in the switch can the shut the booster system fan off until flow is needed again. Application Solution: There are many flow switch monitoring technologies including: flappers, displacers, turbines, etc. All have proven to work with varying degrees of success. Some have mechanical parts and are prone to wear, hang-up, and failure. Some do not work well or for long in the elevated temperatures of this application. Flow monitors are simply flow switches installed in the process piping at the outlet of each trap. These flow monitors can distinguish between a flow and no flow condition at the outlet pipe. If there is a steam trap failure (ex. stuck float ball or valve), the flow switch monitor would indicate a lack of flow and provide an alarm relay contact to alert the failure. Steam cleaners and detergent systems require water flow to operate correctly. The pumps that force the the fluids through the system can be costly to replace and need to be protected. A simple flow switch can provide confirmation of flow or flow at a minimum acceptable volume for proper operation. For added pump protection, a dry line detector, indicator, or alarm is an ideal feature, especially for larger, expensive pumps. --- ## Plastic Pellet Overflow URL: https://deltamcorp.com/applications/plastic-pellet-overflow/ Plastic Pellet Overflow --- ## Vapor Recovery Monitor URL: https://deltamcorp.com/applications/vapor-recovery-monitor/ Vapor Recovery is the process of recovering vapors that normally would be discarded by releasing to the atmosphere or flaring off during an offloading process. Due to EPA regulations releasing gasses into the atmosphere is no longer cheaper than recovery. Monitoring the activity of the compressor as it pumps vapor from one tank to the other may be useful for safety purposes. Knowing when your compressor is flowing or not flowing can let the operator know when it is time to disconnect and move to the next tank. --- ## Dry Bulk Detection URL: https://deltamcorp.com/applications/dry-bulk-detection/ Dry Bulk Detection --- ## Carbon Black Production URL: https://deltamcorp.com/applications/carbon-black-production/ ### Carbon Black Production Furnace Thermocouple ##### Applications: Carbon Black Production Furnace Thermocouple Carbon Black Production Furnace Temperature Measurement Thermocouple for Carbon Black Furnace Temperature Measurement Thermocouple to Optimize Carbon Black Furnace Combustion Application Background: The majority of carbon black is produced using the “Oil Furnace” process where feedstock is injected into a hot gas flame in an enclosed reactor. Simplified it is like a blow torch in a ceramic tube. The carbon black formation reaction is controlled by a steam or water spray. Interestingly the cost of generating the air supply represents more than 50% of the energy usage at a typical waste treatment plant far exceeding that for pumping the waste itself. Thus any means for monitoring and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of air usage could significantly reduce the cost of plant operations. Application Solution: There are many techniques for monitoring aeration air flow in a waste water treatment application.... --- ## Compressed Air URL: https://deltamcorp.com/applications/compressed-air/ ### Compressed Air ##### Applications: COMPRESSED AIR METER COMPRESSED AIR MONITOR AIR FLOW METERS COMPRESSED AIR USAGE MONITOR Application Background: Supplying and maintaining compressed air is an expensive necessity in many industrial applications. By monitoring compressed air flow one can track usage, unusual usages, and track down leakages. When there are even small leakages the expenses can mount up in excessive compressor run and cycle time and additional maintenance for the supplying system. Like the dripping faucet or running toilet tank, significant losses can be incurred. Installing an in line flow pipe of the diameter of your compressed air line or an insertion type flow sensor is an easy way to begin the monitoring process. By tracking usage in time periods and also total usages one can begin to see opportunities to explore for problems, optimize compressor efficiency, and reduce energy costs.... --- ## Truck and Railcar Loading URL: https://deltamcorp.com/applications/truck-and-railcar-loading/ ### Truck and Railcar Loading ##### Applications: TANK, TANKER TRUCK LOADING RAILCAR LOADING TANK, TANKER OVERFILL MONITOR | PROTECTION TANK, TANKER TRUCK OVERFILL MONITOR | PREVENTION TANK, TANKER RAIL CAR OVERFILL MONITOR | PREVENTION CLAMP-ON LEVEL SWITCH Application Background: Overfilling or overflowing a liquid product in a tanker truck or tanker rail car can create a safety and environmental hazard, not to mention the loss of valuable product. Knowing when the level of the liquid product is filling close to the top of the tank or vessel can provide a warning to take preventative measures against an overflow. Application Solution: There are many liquid level monitoring technologies including: manual sticking, site glass, floats, conductivity probes, capacitance probes, vibrating forks, etc. All have proven to work with varying degrees of success. Having a way to know when the level of the liquid product is getting close to the top of the tank or vessel would provide a warning to take preventative measures against an overflow. Application Solution: There are many liquid level monitoring technologies including: manual sticking, site glass, floats, conductivity probes, capacitance probes, vibrating forks, etc. All have proven to work with varying degrees of success. Some rely on operator’s time and attention, while some have mechanical parts and are prone to wear, hang-up, and failure. Drawing a sample and taking it to an analytical lab for testing is normally the practice. Based upon the test results the process can be adjusted to keep the product within specifications. Many industries are now using on line sampling systems to monitor their product quality. Basically a sample of the product is redirected to an analytical testing cabinet where the sample is analyzed with say a gas chromatograph. It is necessary to monitor and assure a minimum flow of a liquid or a gas being sampled from a process flow stream to provide an accurate representation of the actual product.... --- ## Immersion Heater URL: https://deltamcorp.com/applications/immersion-heater/ ### Immersion Heater Protection ##### Applications: Immersion Heater Burn-Out Protection Immersion Heater Overheat Protection Application Background: Immersion heaters are widely used in various industries where tanks, vats, and other vessels are needed to provide an elevated temperature change in the production process. Examples include heating a chemical bath in a plating operation, annealing of metal parts, and even deep frying of potato chips. The problem comes when the level of the fluid in the vessel (oil, water, etc.) drops below the heater and allows the heater to rise above normal operating temperatures. This typically would cause the heater element to burn-out and in some cases create a severe and hazardous situation. Application Solution: There are many fluid level switch technologies including: sight glass, conductivity probes, floats, capacitance probes, etc. All have proven to work with varying degrees of success. Some rely on operator’s attention and memory.... --- ## Contact URL: https://deltamcorp.com/contact/ ### Contact Us Please use the form below to contact us with any questions. --- ## microtuf® - FS42CS URL: https://deltamcorp.com/products/thermal-mass-flow-switches/microtuf-model-fs42cs/ microtuf® MODEL FS42CS Basic Mass Flow Switch • Thermal Differential Mass Flow Switch for the detection of the mass flow rate of liquids and gases. • Wide operating temperature range -100°F to +850°F (-70°C to +458°C). • Wide flow range of .01 to 5 feet per second (fps) in oil, 2.5 fps in water and .1 to 500 fps in gases. • Two year workmanship warranty. • Removable Plug-in electronics. • Free of all moving parts that can stick, coat or fail. • Fast response time of .5 to 10 seconds depending on the media. • Self heating sensor design improves repeatability.
